Following Parliamentary approval, an increase in for some overseas visa fees, and UK-based visa application fees, will be introduced from Friday 6 April 2012.

All payments made from 00:01 (UK time) on Friday 6 April, should be paid according to the fee information on the Fees for British Council services page.

Applications will not be accepted where an incorrect fee is paid.

A facility that allowed Indian students to work in UK for two years after their courses are over is closed from Friday as part of the Cameron government’s drive to cut migration, which may put-off those aspiring to study in the UK.

Under the Tier 1 (Post-study work) route, Indian and other non-EU students were able to take up work for two years in UK after the completion of their university courses.
This route is closed from Friday.

The facility was popular among self-financing Indian students who sought to recover some of the expenses of studying by working for two years.

The facility also enabled them to gain work experience in the UK that was seen to aid career prospects in India.
